The Travel to Vietnam Itinerary (11 nights)
Day 1: Departure
Depart from your preferred airport from London
Day 2: Hanoi
Begin your travel to Vietnam by arriving in Hanoi and visit the Temple of Literature, the peace and serenity of this place is mesmerising. From here proceed to the One Pillar Pagoda, dating back to the 11th century. Nearby is the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Complex whilst here visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (only from the outside) and the Ho Chi Minh Stilt House where Ho Chi Minh lived during his days as president. Afterwards proceed to Hoan Kiem Lake. From here continue the walk to the Old Quarter which is an interesting area complete with narrow alleys and shop houses. Shoppers here will find everything from fabrics and crafts to medicines and tombstones. Afterwards spend the rest of the day at leisure and in the evening witness the famous Water Puppet Show. Overnight stay in your chosen hotel in Hanoi.
Day 3: Hanoi - Halong Bay (transfer time: approx.3h30m)
Begin your day with a cruise through the emerald waters and craggy limestone cliffs of Halong Bay. Stop and explore one of the numerous caves here. Afterwards sail across floating villages, fishermen casting nets and experience the general way of life in this bay. End your day with a magical sunset over the bay. Overnight stay on board.
Day 4 Halong Bay - Ninh Binh (transfer time: approx.5h)
In the morning return to the pier and disembark and transfer to Ninh Bin. Check into your chosen hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Ninh Binh.
Day 5 Ninh Binh:
After breakfast head off to explore some of Ninh Binh’s highlights. First up explore TrangAn by rowing boat. Trang An consists of towering limestone mountains, dry caves, under water caves, flooded primeval forests, rivers and a very diverse ecosystem. During the journey through Trang An, you will travel through 12 caves and 3 temples where the scenery seems almost magical. Afterwards proceed to Hoa Lu, the first capital of Vietnam during the Dinh (968-980) and early Le (980-1009) Dynasties. The atmosphere in the temple is reminiscent of the heyday of the royal citadel with palaces; pavilions and temples, dating back to thousands of years. End this magical day with a visit to Bich Dong Pagoda. This visit would include a walking tour across a stone bridge and hike up the mountains on the stone steps, passing through the dark cave, after this exhilarating trek you will find yourself on top of the mountains with a bird’s eye view of the stunning surroundings. From here proceed back to your chosen hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 6 Ninh Binh - Pu Luong (transfer time: approx.3h30m):
After the breakfast depart from Ninh Binh to the Pu Luong Natural Reserve. After your drive you will have an energising trek from Pho Doan market to the Hin village where you will spend the evening in the company of a family of the Thai Minorities. Spend an insightful time with the locals with an overnight home stay.
Day 7 Pu Luong - Kho Muong (transfer time: approx.1h45m):
After breakfast depart from Hin village and continue your trek. Today’s trek will involve a few more steep climbs and steam crossings along with a visit to an astounding cave which was only recently discovered. Although your trek may seem remote, you will never feel isolated as locals are bound to be nearby tending to fields across the steep limestone mountains and rainforests inside Pu Luong nature reserve all the way across to Nua Village. Lunch will be provided during your trek. Afterwards proceed to Kho Muong village, whilst here have dinner and settle in for one more night at a local home.
Day 8 Kho Muong – Hanoi (transfer time: approx.4h30m):
The daily grind begins early in these parts, experience life as a local. Afterwards a challenging hike which includes more steep climbs and stream crossings will reward you with beautiful views of the valley with its colourful rice terraces and thick rainforest. On route have a picnic lunch and head back to Hanoi for an overnight train.
Day 9 Hanoi - Sapa:
Arrive early at the train station and transfer up mountain to Sapa. A brisk trek will take you to the village of Ta Phin. Ta Phin is inhabited by the Red Dzao people known for their red headscarves and their handicraft skills. From here proceed on the tour and visit the Ham Rong. Overnight stay in Sapa.
Day 10: Sapa - Lao Chai (transfer time: 1h30m)
Travel by jeep from Sapa to the village of Lao Chai. Visit the Hmong, Dzay and Dzao people. Also take in the stunning scenery of terraced rice paddies, water-falls and small bamboo forests that are unique for the northern region. From Ta Van continue to Giang Ta Chai, another minority village populated by Hmong and Dzay. Then transfer by jeep back to Sapa. In the evening board the train back to Hanoi. Overnight in the train.
Day 11 Departure:
Arrive and spend a few hours at leisure in Hanoi and afterwards proceed to the airport for your flight back to London after your travel to Vietnam.
