The Tour (11 Days) of Family Holidays
Day 1 Departure:
Depart from London Heathrow. Direct flight to Colombo airport.
Day 2 Colombo:
Upon arrival at Colombo airport be greeted by your personal chauffeur guide who will remain with you throughout your time in Sri Lanka. A forty minute drive will take you to the cosmopolitan capital of Sri Lanka- Colombo (transfer time: approx.1h30m). Check into the Cinnamon lakeside (5*) hotel set in the heart of the bustling capital on half board basis. Take in a tour of the city and settle down for evening drinks by the pool or on a floating restaurant.
Day 3 Kandy:
After an early breakfast head to Kandy via the Pinnawala elephant orphanage (transfer time: approx. 3h30m) which is home to over 90 orphaned and injured Pinnawala-Elephant elephants. Here take part in a bottle feeding and watch these gentle giants indulge in their two hour bath in the local river whilst you have your lunch al fresco next to these majestic mammals. Arrive in Kandy and stay at Cinnamon Citadel hotel (4*) on half board basis. This picturesque hotel is set beside a meandering river and it provides spectacular panoramic views of the encroaching scrub. In the evening take in a tour of the city of Kandy and the sacred Temple of the Tooth.
Optional: If you are travelling during the month of August, it is well worth spending two nights in Kandy for an unforgettable spectacle of culture as the city of Kandy comes alive during the Esala Perahera which is the world’s oldest, religious and cultural pageant. Be sure to book your front row seat during one of the ten street processions that takes place in the Kandy city starting from the Temple of the Tooth. festivities come complete with fire dancers, over 100 mighty elephants and of course the famed replica of the tooth relic of Lord Buddha around which this procession is based. Day 4 Pasikudah:
After a breakfast overlooking the meandering Mahaweli River head North East to Pasikudah (transfer time: approx.5h). On your drive you will pass distinctive countryside from the glistening waterfalls of Hunasgiriya where you might fancy a dip in its refreshing pools to the giant lakes dotted across this area. Arrive after lunch at the fishing hamlet of Pasikudah which is home to the stunning beach front hotel Anilana Pasikudah (4*) which will be your home for the next 4 nights and stay on half board basis.
Day 5-8 Pasikudah:
For the next four days relax in bliss, dining on sumptuous seafood ranging from tiger prawns to decadent crabs. Pasikudah is an idyllic fishing hamlet with a stunningly calm bay where one can engage in a round on a jet ski, a dive to the nearby corals and ship wrecks, a cycling tour of the nearby village or you may wish to just relax pool side or take in an Ayurvedic massage.
Day 9 Pasikudah - Habarana:
After breakfast head towards Habarana on route stopping over at Polonnaruwa for a tour of the UNESCO heritage sites around this area (transfer time: approx.2h30m). Check into Cinnamon lodge (4*) staying on half board basis and then head towards Minneriya for a spectacular safari. At Minneriya national park witness the spectacle that is known as ‘’The Gathering’’ where large herds of wild elephants congregate in a single spot. This annual occurrence is unique to Sri Lanka and should not be missed. Whilst at this national park also partake in a safari in search of birds, reptiles and other creatures that call this park home.
Day 10 Habarana - Negombo:
After a couple of exciting days head to the beach town of Negombo (transfer time: approx.4h) for your last night in this diverse island. Staying at Jetwing Blue (5*) you might wish to end your holiday on a high note with a dinner at one of the local pubs in this beach town or indulge in a private candlelit dinner at the hotel as the children are taken care of in the engaging child care centre.
Day 11: Departure
Depart to Colombo airport (transfer time: approx.30m) for your return flight to London Heathrow.
