The Holiday in Sri Lanka Itinerary
Day 1 London:
Depart from London Heathrow on your overnight flight to Colombo
Day 2 Colombo:
Arrive at Colombo airport where you will be picked up and driven to the chic Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel (transfer time: approx.1h), staying in a Superior city view room which makes for the perfect start to your holiday in Sri Lanka. Spend the rest of the day at leisure or settle down for sunset cocktails by the pool. Dinner and overnight stay at the Hotel.
Day 3 Kandy:
After breakfast meet your chauffeur guide who will take you to Kandy on route visiting the Pinnawela elephant orphanage ( transfer time: approx. 3h30m). Arrive in Kandy and check into the Cinnamon Citadel which offers beautiful views across the Mahaweli River. After an afternoon at leisure head to the Temple of the Tooth which is one of the most revered Buddhist temples in the world, housing the tooth relic of the Buddha. Afterwards return back to Cinnamon Citadel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Optional: If you are travelling during the month of August, it is well worth spending two nights in Kandy for an unforgettable spectacle of culture as the city of Kandy comes alive during the Esala Perahera which is the world’s oldest, religious and cultural pageant. Be sure to book your front row seat during one of the ten street processions that takes place in the Kandy city starting from the Temple of the Tooth. festivities come complete with fire dancers, over 100 mighty elephants and of course the famed replica of the tooth relic of Lord Buddha around which this procession is based. Day 4 Kandy - Kandalama:
After breakfast proceed to Kandalama on route visiting a spice garden in Matale and the amazing Dambulla caves (1st Century B.C.) (transfer time: approx. 2h30m). Afterwards arrive at the Heritance Kandalama where you will be staying in luxury on half board basis, your hotel is in the heart of the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka, close to 5 stunning UNESCO world heritage sites. Spend the rest of the day relaxing, watching the wildlife from your private balcony or take an elephant back safari (optional extra) in the plains surrounding the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5 Kandalama:
A day of culture as you explore the sacred and ancient capital of Polonnaruwa and the stunning rock fortress at Sigiriya, an UNESCO world heritage site dating back to the 5th century. Lunch will be at a local restaurant. Return to your hotel to enjoy the excellent facilities which include a choice of three swimming pools and on site spa.
Day 6 Kandalama -Negombo:
After breakfast proceed to Negombo for your last night in Sri Lanka (transfer time: aprox.3h30m). Arrive at Jetwing Blue and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Whilst here you may wish to engage in some last minute shopping or simply soak up the sun by the beach. Dinner and overnight stay at Jetwing Blue.
Day 7 London:
After breakfast proceed to the airport (transfer time: approx.30m) for your flight back home.
