Island Escapes – Sri Lanka Holidays
I am back from an insightful Sri Lanka holidays experience and I have to say I have been pleasantly surprised by what is available with regards to Sri Lanka holiday packages.
My travels this time around took to me the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka and the East Coast. Simply bliss I have to say.
So after a direct flight with Sri Lankan airlines I was about to begin my Sri Lanka holidays. After touching down in Sri Lanka, I made my way through the newly refurbished Colombo Bandaranayaike airport, which is a testament to the development that is going on in this resplendent island making Sri Lanka holidays even more appealing. After a swift baggage claim I was out the doors and welcomed by the gentle evening breeze and instinctively I knew at this point that my Sri Lanka holidays were going to be good.
A 4 hour drive later, through paddy fields and smiling faces I was at the scenic Vil Uyana in Sigiriya. This nature retreat is sublime in its offerings, surrounded by water, working paddy fields and thickets of forest, be one with nature here. Vil Uyana offers views across a lively lake as well as onwards to the staggering yet regal Sigiriya rock fortress.
After a good night’s sleep and a hearty village inspired breakfast I was climbing the Sigiriya rock fortress and being marvelled by the sights that surrounded me from the mirror wall, the precarious stairs, the 360 degree views of the plains below which were literally under my feet to of course the highly regarded frescoes of the maidens that called this rock fortress home.
After an adrenalin pumping climb which was well worth it, merely for the sights, I headed across to Polonnaruwa for more adrenalin as part of my Sri Lanka holidays.
In Polonnaruwa I cycled across many ancient ruins which pay homage to the Buddhist history of this charming island. I was marvelled by the various Stupas and relics here and also quite inspired which meant that I retreated back to my relaxing abode for a spot of yoga with my own personal yoga guru on the banks of the lake.
So folks, this is just a snippet of my Sri Lanka holidays experience, visit the blog page for my rest of the highlights of Sri Lanka holidays.
